For the third consecutive year, Victoria Vivians of Mississippi State has been selected as the winner of the C Spire Gillom trophy, symbolizing her recognition as the outstanding women’s basketball player in the state. Finalists for the 2017 C Spire Howell and Gillom Trophies Announced

The finalists for the 2017 C Spire Gillom Trophy and the C Spire Howell Trophy have been named. C Spire will be presenting these awards to the most outstanding women’s and men’s basketball players in the state. A state-wide panel of media vote for the top three players in each category and then fans vote online at www.csopavoting.com. The finalists will attend a banquet at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Monday, March 6th beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the winners will be announced at that time....

The Museum Debuts New Entrance Film

By Rick Cleveland, Mississippi Today The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has a new introductory film in its newly named Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Theatre. The new, 15-minute presentation was produced through a generous grant from the Jackson-based Gertrude C. Ford Foundation. The museum, which turned 20 last July, still showed the original theatre presentation until recently. The 2016 C Spire Conerly Trophy was presented to Ole Miss Senior tight end Evan Engram on Tuesday night at the Clarksdale Country Club. Engram becomes the first tight end to be awarded the honor, which is presented annually to the most outstanding college football player in Mississippi. The great Boo Ferriss has died at 94

  David Meadow “Boo” Ferriss, a baseball legend and one of Mississippi’s most beloved citizens, died today (Nov. 24, 2016) at home. Ferriss was 94. Ferriss was born on Dec. 5, 1921, to Delta farmer William Douglas Ferriss and Lellie Meadow Ferriss of Shaw. Young David pretty much nicknamed himself. As a toddler he tried to get the attention of his older brother, Will D. He tried to say “brother” and it came out “Boo.” The name stuck.
