Mississippi State’s leading offensive player, outfielder/firstbaseman Brent Rooker has been named the winner of the 2017 C Spire Ferriss Trophy.  The trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding college baseball player in Mississippi as chosen by a combination of the state’s baseball coaches, professional baseball scouts that cover the state and a fan vote sponsored by C Spire. The five finalists for the 2017 C Spire Ferriss Trophy were announced this morning. The C Spire Ferriss Trophy goes to the Most Outstanding college baseball player in the state each year. The finalists include three University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, a Mississippi State Bulldog and one Statesman from Delta State. The finalists for the 2017 C Spire Gillom Trophy and the C Spire Howell Trophy have been named. C Spire will be presenting these awards to the most outstanding women’s and men’s basketball players in the state. The Museum Debuts New Entrance Film

By Rick Cleveland, Mississippi Today The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has a new introductory film in its newly named Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Theatre. The new, 15-minute presentation was produced through a generous grant from the Jackson-based Gertrude C. Ford Foundation.
