College Career

Mississippi State (1920-1924)

• Member of the “Four C” relay team of Clark, Cato, Cochran and Cameron that never lost a relay.

• Cameron won every boxing match he entered

• Ran a 70 yard punt return to tie Alabama (’21)

• Caught 9 passes against Drake (’22)


Coaching Career

Laurel High School (1924-1945)

• Coached 2 Big 3 basketball championship teams (’26, ‘27)

• Coached 2 Big 6 basketball championship teams (’28, ‘29)

• Coached 2 Big 8 basketball championship teams (’31, ‘32)

• Coached 10 Big 8 track championship teams, 10 second place teams, and 1 third place team (1924-1945)

• Initiated and installed the first permanently lighted high school football stadium in the South (Laurel, MS)

• Pop Warner Helms Award for distinguished service with youth (’67)


Did You Know?

Cameron used to say that there were three ways to learn something; do it, read it, or ask about it. This saying was best exemplified by Cameron’s practice of bringing nationally known coaches to Mississippi for coaches’ workshops and attending clinics held by such renowned coaches as Knute Rockne.
