Mississippi State University (1960-1964)

• Lettered in basketball (4 years), baseball and track (3 years)

• Fourth leading scorer on the 1961-1962 basketball team

• Member of the ‘61-’62 and ‘62-’63 basketball teams which won back-to-back SEC titles

• UPI Second Team Small All-American

• Captain of the ‘63-’64 basketball team

• Compiled a 5-0 baseball record with a 2.15 ERA (’63)

• Pitched 50 innings in 11 games, allowed 36 hits, 15 runs, 12 earned runs, walked 22, and struck out 38 batters (’63)

• All-SEC Western Division (baseball)

• Member of the SEC champion 440-yard relay team (’62)


Basketball Coaching Career

• Mississippi State freshman basketball team coach (’65)

• Hazlehurst High School, Basketball and Baseball Coach (1965-1967)

• Florence High School, Basketball coach (1967-1981)

– Led the girls’ Eagles basketball team to a state title in 1970

– Led the boys’ Eagles basketball team to a state title in 1977

• Clinton High School, coach baseball and basketball

• Coached the Arrows’ varsity basketball team to a third place finish in the state in 1987 and a South State appearance in 1988

• Baseball State Champions (’90)

• Second place baseball state tournament (’91, ‘ 93)


Did You Know?

Doug Hutton smashed the state basketball tournament semi-finals scoring record with 47 points in 1960. He broke his own record in the finals with 54 points.
