So, I suppose we should be immune to it by now. I’m talking about how the rest of the world, and mostly the national networks, always confuse all things Mississippi.
On ESPN, Ole Miss gets called Mississippi State. Southern Miss gets called Ole Miss. Ole Miss gets called Ole Miss State. Sometimes it seems like they get it wrong as much as they get it right. I’ve heard the Mississippi State Rebels and the Mississippi Bulldogs.
Even the NCAA can’t keep us straight. Mississippi State wins a regional to go to the Final Four, and the NCAA gives the Bulldogs baseball caps that say, well, the caps referred to that school up north. I wish you could have seen Richard Williams’ face when that happened.
To tell you the truth, I thought it had reached the worst it could get on August 26th of last year when Tropical Storm Issac hit the Gulf Coast and The Weather Channel referred to the state of Mississippi as “the land mass” between New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama.
But no…. today The Weather Channel topped itself.
