The Belhaven Blazers have selected freshman cornerback Isaiah Swopes as the school’s 2015 C Spire Conerly nominee.
Swopes, who last fall was playing for Ocean Springs High School, wasted no time making his presence felt at the college level. He tied school records and set freshman records with six pass interceptions and 12 passes broken up. He set a school record for 18 passes defended.
Swopes also contributed 33 tackles including 1.5 for losses and forced two fumbles.
Swopes becomes the fifth player nominated for the C Spire Conerly Trophy, which goes annually to the state’s most outstanding college football player. He follows Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott, Marcel Newson of Mississippi College, Javancy Jones of Jackson State and Nick Mullens of Southern Miss.

Mississippi’s 10 football playing senior colleges all nominate a finalist for the C Spire Conerly Trophy. Schools have until Nov. 23 to nominate a finalist for the award.

The Dec. 1 awards program, at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, will include a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. banquet. Tickets, $100 each, are available by calling the MSHOF at 601 982-8264 or click here for order form.
