History — and hoops — at your museum

If you are a sports and/or history buff, you won’t want to miss this evening’s  at your Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Here’s why:
We are approaching the 50th anniversary of Mississippi State’s first game in the NCAA Basketball Tournament when Babe McCarthy’s ballclub defied the wishes of state government and played Loyola of Chicago. Author Kyle Veazey, who wrote Champions for Change,
the story of that 1963 team and game, will be on hand to sign his book beginning at 5 p.m.
Then, at 6:30, Veazey will be joined by Naismith Hall of Famer Bailey Howell, Doug Hutton and Larry Lee for a panel discussion about that team, that game and about that era of Mississippi State basketball. Hutton, a Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer, and Lee were both members of that 1962-63 team.
The event is free to the public (or you can make a small donation to the museum). Veazey, erudite Mississippi history and sports buff that he is, will make a donation from the sale of each book to the museum.
I read the Kyle’s book the day it was first available. He did a heckuva job, and a signed copy will make someone a nice Christmas present.
