Last week's picks are a tough act to follow

Posted on: September 16,2013

Last week, I went all Bear Bryant on you. That’s right, I went 11-0. Eleven games, 11 winners.
That’s what I call going all Bear Bryant on you. Bear went 11-0 twice, 12-0 once en route to six national championships. Bear Bryant was never one to brag, so I won’t either.
How could I? It was dumb luck. But it was good for the old winning percentage. On the season, I am now 27-5 for 84.4 percent. Bear’s all-time winning percentage was 79.2. (But I’m not bragging.)
Keep in mind: I’m not picking any LSU-Kent State or Georgia State-Alabama gimmes either. Bear, for all his greatness, played a few of those.
Let’s do it again…
Mississippi State 30, Troy State 20: Bulldogs just as easily could have won last week against Auburn. They will win this week against a good Sun Belt team.
LSU 31, Auburn 20: From victors in their first SEC game, the Auburn Tigers turn into LSU Tiger bait. LSU is more talented and more experienced, a difficult combo to overcome.
Vandy 42, UMASS 17: If you read this blog regularly you know how good a coach I think James Franklin is. Vandy, a tough luck team this year, gets well here.
Florida 27, Tennessee 10: The Gators aren’t Oregon, so they probably won’t put up 58 straight on the Vols, but they’ll put up more than enough.
Clemson 34, North Carolina State 13 — Your Thursday night football entertainment, but it might not be all that entertaining for very long.
Boise State 27 Fresno State 24— The Friday night special, and according to Vegas, I am picking an upset here.
Georgia Tech 34, North Carolina 28 — I used to hate the triple option when everybody and his cousins ran it, but now I love to watch Paul Johnson’s version of it at Tech. Sometimes it’s really hard to tell who has the ball.
Duke 30, Pitt 24 — Another upset special. Duke has gotten a lot better under Coach Cut.
Notre Dame 24, Michigan State 21 — Almost picked another upset, but couldn’t quite pull the trigger.
Saints 30, Arizona Cardinals 24 — Considering the last two weeks, I guess the best bet might be that it goes down to the last play. Don’t know if a lot of my friends could stand another one like the last two.
