Posted on: June 05,2014

Jackson, Miss.— A whole wide world of wonder awaits visitors to the LeFleur Museum District! Saturday, July 5 the LeFleur Museum District members, the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, the Mississippi Children’s Museum, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, will be hosting a joint event, “Summertime, Wonder Time.” Each museum will have special themed activities that encourage visitors to wonder, explore and discover.
The Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum will take visitors back to a simpler time with a country fair. Take a journey through Small Town, Mississippi and discover traditional trades like blacksmithing and quilting and learn what it took to make a meal without modern conveniences. Joe and Sally, the museum’s resident mules, will be demonstrating the use of mules in farming before technological developments. Activity times at the agriculture museum are 1-6 p.m.
The Mississippi Children’s Museum is celebrating America’s independence with bubble wrap fireworks and confetti after the singing of the National Anthem at noon. Children are asked to put their “John Hancock” on the Declaration of Independence. Throughout the museum, visitors can create patriotic arts and crafts and cool off on the splash pad. Activity times at the children’s museum are 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science gets gross—Animal Grossology that is. During Summertime, Wonder Time, the museum will experiment with star-spangled slime, dance with declaration oobleck, touch critters during Gross Critter Investigations and paint fireworks with natural elements. Activity times at the natural science museum are 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.
The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will kick off “Summertime, Wonder Time” with their July 4th Farm Bureau Watermelon Classic 5K Run/Walk on Friday. On Saturday, the Hall of Fame will be open for a day of family fun. Stop by and run through the inflatable obstacle course before trying the interactive sports games in the museum. Become a pitcher, quarterback and much more. Experience the place where legends come to live. Activity times at the Hall of Fame are 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
A shuttle will be available to transport visitors between the four museums during “Summertime, Wonder Time.” The Full District Pass joint ticket provides general admission to all four museums at a 25 percent discount. The joint ticket must be purchased on-line, at least 24-hours before the visit. Visitors must adhere to each museum’s guidelines for visitation.
