Ash, Buteau win Farm Bureau W'melon Classic

Alan Ash of Atmore, Ala., and Rebecca Buteau of Madison were the overall winners in the 30th annual Farm Bureau Watermelon 5K Classic on Independence Day at your Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
In unusually mild temperatures for this time of the year, Ash, a 22-year-old, ran the 3.1 mile course in 16 minutes, two seconds. Buteau, 27, finished in 19 minutes, 11 seconds.
In the 5K men’s walk division, 43-year-old Larry Robinson of Forest was the men’s winner in 29:33. Angel Curry, 49, of Rayville won the women’s walk in 31:48.
Brandon’s Conner Ginn, 11, won the one mile boys run with a time of 6:50, while Arilyn Thomas, 9, of Madison, won the girls division in 7:01.
More than 1,500 participated in the event that benefits the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
