Guthrie wins Egg Bowl raffle; MSHoF wins big

 Hunter Hood draws raffle winner for 2 Egg Bowl tickets. 

Peg Guthrie was the lucky winner of two Egg Bowl tickets in the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum raffle for the Orley Hood Award endowment at the museum today.
Mary Ann Hood, a Mississippi State graduate and fan, donated her two Egg Bowl tickets to the MSHoF with the idea of using the tickets to earn money for the award named in her husband’s honor. Hunter Hood, her oldest son and an Ole Miss graduate, drew the winning raffle ticket.
There were 167 raffle tickets purchased at $10 each. The raffle made $1,670. No matter who wins the Egg Bowl, your Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a winner.
“Orley was a huge supporter of this hall of fame and this museum,” Rick Cleveland MSHoF executive director Rick Cleveland said. “Mary Ann and sons Hunter and Tucker have taken up the torch. We at the museum are grateful to them and to all who bought raffle tickets.”
Orley Hood was a long-time and much-beloved  columnist for the Jackson newspapers. He died after a long illness last February. An award, which will annually honor the state’s top high school journalist, was created and named for Hood. In May, Jack Hall of St. Joseph High School was presented the first Orley Hood Award for Excellence.
