Hutton among 5 to enter MAC Hall of Fame

CLINTON — Doug Hutton, a 1995 inductee to the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame, is among five who will be inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame on June 26.
The MAC Hall of Fame Class of 2015 includes: 
RONNIE CUEVAS, championship football coach at Gulfport, Starkville, and Harrison Central, who is the winningest coach in Gulfport history; native of Gulfport and graduate of Gulfport High who lettered on offensive line for Mississippi State; 35-year coaching veteran who led his teams to a record of 142 wins and 95 losses; guided Gulfport football squads to 12 consecutive playoff appearances; served as MAC President and the first recipient of the MAC Roy Garcia Outstanding Coach Award in 2009.

DOUG HUTTON, famed championship basketball and baseball coach at Hazlehurst, Florence, and Clinton; Bolton native who was raised in Clinton and was an All-State All American basketball star who also lettered in basketball, baseball, and track at Mississippi State; started his 32-year coaching career in 1965;  led the Florence Eagle girls basketball team to the 1970 overall State title and the boys team to the 1977 overall State championship; coached boys and girls basketball and baseball;  guided his basketball teams to a record of 390-160 and his baseball teams to a mark of 328-85; and selected as SEC Legend in 2015.
GLASPER GERONE KIRKLAND, legendary championship basketball coach at Central high in Coffeeville, Rosa Fort in Tunica, and H. W. Byers in Holly Springs; hails from Carthage where he was All-State basketball player at Harmony Vocational; graduate of Mississippi Industrial in Holly Springs; coaching career spanned 40 years from 1965 to 2006; coached for 29 years at Rosa Fort where he also served as athletic director and driving instructor and led the Lions to two state titles in 1985 and 1995;  his teams had a record of 818 wins and 440 losses;  four-time MAC Coach of the Year who coached in the 1994 MS/AL game; the gym at Rosa Fort is named in his honor. 
BRENDA LEWIS, famed championship softball coach at Moss Point High for 31 years; Picayune native who graduated from Picayune High, Pearl River Community College, and Delta State; Spent her entire coaching career at Moss Point where she led the Lady Tigers to 7 South State titles, 3 state runner-up finishes, 6 Class 5A state championships, and the 1988 Overall Grand Slam crown; her teams had a mark of 703-199; three-time MAC Softball Coach of the Year; served as MAC All-Star coach on three occasions.
ROBERT WILLIAMS, outstanding athletic director and basketball coach at Sunflower County and O’Bannon High in Greenville; native of Greenville who graduated from Coleman High, Mississippi Valley State, and Delta State; 33-year coaching veteran who led his hoops teams to a record of 197-142;  instrumental in the building of sports complex at O’Bannon High; longtime board member and Past President of MAC in 1997-98; inducted into the Mississippi Valley State University Athletic Hall of Fame for baseball in 2013. 
The 43rd Annual Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Banquet sponsored by BankPlus will be held on June 26, 2015, at 6:00 PM at the Hilton Hotel in Jackson. The MAC Hall of Fame membership will increase to 222 total (210 lifetime and 12 honorary members).  The MAC Coaches Hall of Fame was created in 1973.
