If you can't go to Austin, here's place to be

Posted on: September 04,2013

I’m going to go out on a pretty stout limb here: The Ole Miss Rebels will be 2-0 when they travel to Austin to play the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 14.
It will be, without question, one of the biggest early season games in recent Ole Miss football history. If the Rebels are not in the Top 25 by then, a victory in that one surely would put them there.

Thousands of Rebel fans will make the trip west. Thousands more can’t get tickets.
Your Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum invites you see history made where history is stored: at the museum. We will be showing the game on our three big screen televisions at an event we’re calling Grove Away from the Grove.
The Sofa King Smokers, a Memphis in May award-winning barbecue team is smoking succulent pork and chicken and providing all the trimmings. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. There will be a cash bar (reasonably priced, to be sure) as well. Proceeds go toward the operation of your Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
If you haven’t been to the museum lately, you should know it’s a superb venue for an event such as this one. One of the 80-inch TV screens, in our scoreboard, faces stadium seating for 45 in the mezzanine. We have two more 80-inch screens just above the Wall of Memories on the arena floor.
We did this for Mississippi State’s two games in the College World Series championship series. Other than the outcomes of the games, it was a big success.

Doors will open at 6. Kickoff is at 7. Due to space considerations we will have to limit the crowd to the first 250.
Keep in mind, during TV timeouts, you are welcome to visit our touchscreen video kiosks and view many of the greatest moments in Ole Miss sports history, as well as many of the greatest players. Or you can check out the memorabilia of one of the biggest Ole Miss football fans ever, the one and only Dizzy Dean.
Those wanting to reserve tickets, should call 601 982-8264.
