Long-Time Board Member and Supporter of MSHOF Passes

The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum sadly shares the news of the passing of long-time supporter and board member Dr. Alan Freeland. Dr. Freeland served on the Mississippi Sports Foundation Board of Directors from 2002 through 2016 and was granted Board Member Emeritus status following his retirement. Dr. Freeland served the Board as Secretary from 2009 until 2015.
“Dr. Freeland was a true supporter of our efforts,” according to Executive Director, Bill Blackwell. “He not only gave of his time but selflessly gave financial support and helped obtain items for our auctions each year.”
Dr. Freeland received his BA from Johns Hopkins University and obtained his MD from George Washington University. In 1978 he came to UMMC in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and was made Professor in 1986. He held many leadership positions at the school and was Director of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery from 1991 – 2004.
Dr. Freeland will be fondly remembered by all associated with the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
