Mississippi State Offensive Tackle Charles Cross has been selected as the winner of the Kent Hull Trophy for 2021. The Trophy is named in honor of former MSU and Buffalo Bills great Kent Hull and is presented by the Kent Hull Foundation and Entergy. Cross is a 6’5” 310lb left tackle for the Bulldogs and is a red-shirt sophomore. He will be the 8th winner of this award and the 5th Bulldog to capture the trophy.
A native of Laurel, MS he was the #1 rated prep prospect his senior year in high school. He appeared in three games his freshman year before accepting a red-shirt. In 2020 he started 10 games and was the highest graded lineman five times. He was named to the All-SEC freshman team. He has continued that progress this season and was selected by a panel of NFL Scouts for this award.
The Kent Hull Foundation started this award which is presented each year during the C Spire Conerly Trophy banquet in 2013. The award honors the unsung heroes of a team that toil in obscurity of the line. The Kent Hull Foundation raises needed funds for the UMMC Candlelighter’s, “Kent spent his entire career on the offensive line providing protection and openings for his teammates and we are proud to highlight the work of those that do that work without fanfare,” according to Kent’s widow Kay Hull Kimmel.
This year’s presentation will be at the Country Club of Jackson with a reception beginning at 5:30 followed by the banquet at 6:30. Each 4-year school in the state that plays football will have a nominee in attendance. CBS sports analyst Charles Davis will serve as Master of Ceremonies and tickets are available by phone at 601-982-8264, or in person at the Hall of Fame.
