The Most Interesting Man in Golf

The Most Interesting Man in Golf

My favorite golfer? I grew up on Arnold Palmer. When Arnie faded, I latched on to Jack Nicklaus. When
Jim Gallagher moved to Mississippi and was part of a victorious U.S. Ryder Cup team, I went with Jim.
There was a while there when I was just mesmerized by Tiger Woods, who could do things nobody else has ever done.

Here lately, as my hair turns colors and my drives don’t go quite as far as they used to, I have made the switch to Miguel Angel Jimenez, the Spaniard known far and wide as the “most interesting man in golf.”
I love the way he saunters down the fairway, pony-tailed, and slightly pot-bellied, with his big, fat cigar. I can’t help but smile when he stretches out his creaky bones with what looks to be a combination of yoga and kung fu. I love the fact that he makes no bones about his appreciation of a glass or three of fine red wine. I love the way he competes and is always at his best in the biggest tournaments.
And I bring all this up in this blog because The Most Interesting Man in Golf is coming to Mississippi.
That’s right, Jiminez, a newly minted senior golfer, will play in the 2015 Mississippi Gulf Resort Clss Presented by C Spire March 27-29 at Fallen Oak in Biloxi.
Jiminez has won two of the three Champions Tour events he has entered. You may recall he finished fourth in last year’s Masters. He still hits it a mile and is still competitive against what senior golfers call the “limberbacks.”
The guy can still play.
The Gulf Resort Classic also announced today that Colin Montgomerie also has committed to play at Fallen Oak for a second straight year. “Monty” won two Senior majors last year. He already has been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
The Champions tourney on the Coast is shaping up. Now if we could just get this weather to make up her mind.
