On State's manhandling of LSU, Day, etc

My take on State-LSU: Dak Prescott and Josh Robinson have received mountains of praise for their performances, as well they should. But this should not be lost on anyone: State body-slammed LSU in the manner LSU and Alabama have done to State and Ole Miss so many times over the years. Offensively, the Bulldogs gashed them at the line of scrimmage. Defensively, State’s front seven dominated LSU’s offensive line. Prescott and Robinson were fantastic, but State won first and foremost at the line of scrimmage. The final score was no indication of State’s dominance…
On State center Dillon Day and the alleged stomping incidents: I don’t have an X-ray machine to look inside Day’s brain to know what he was thinking. I can’t judge intent. That said, it did not look good. Extenuating circumstances did not help Day’s case. The fact that Day was suspended for a half game last season for a similar situation and also received a personal foul penalty in this LSU game does not help. Clearly, the one-game suspension is huge. Regardless of what you think about his style of play, Day is an extremely effective, physical player, a co-captain and a key cog in a really good State offensive line. On Southern Miss’s victory over Appalachian State: Somehow, USM found a way to win, but I would guess Appy State coaches will have nightmares about the manner in which they lost — for months if not years. As in: How in the world did we lose that game? The Eagles are double-digit underdogs to Rice at home this weekend. USM recruiters have miles to go before they sleep. Finding a way to win games like Saturday night’s is a step in the right direction….

On Memphis-Ole Miss: In Vegas, the Rebels opened as 24-point favorites and that line has since moved to 19. Apparently, many heavy-handed bettors believe the Rebels will be looking forward to Alabama and past Memphis. The M-Tigers have scored on everyone, including 35 on 3-0 UCLA in a 42-35 defeat. Anybody who has watched the Memphis-Ole Miss series over the years knows the Tigers will play as if their mothers’ lives depend on the outcome.
