Vivians and Saiz Capture 2017 C Spire Gillom, Howell Trophies

For the third consecutive year, Victoria Vivians of Mississippi State has been selected as the winner of the C Spire Gillom trophy, symbolizing her recognition as the outstanding women’s basketball player in the state. She becomes the first ever three-time winner of the award in its ten year history. Vivians a junior, will have an opportunity to make it four in a row next year. Other finalists for the 2017 award were Brittany Dinkins of Southern Miss and Vivian’s teammate, Morgan William.
Ole Miss senior, Sebastian Saiz was chosen the winner of the C Spire Howell Trophy as the outstanding men’s player. Saiz along with the other finalists, Devin Schmidt of Delta State and Quinndary Weatherspoon of MSU were all in attendance at the event held at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
C Spire sponsors these awards as part of their outstanding player awards series. Trophies are awarded to the top individuals in football (C Spire Conerly Trophy), baseball (C Spire Ferriss Trophy) and basketball (C Spire Gillom and C Spire Howell Trophies). Proceeds raised go to support the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.
Selections are made on votes of a state-wide media panel (90%) and fan voting conducted by C Spire (10%). Over 7,000 fan votes were cast this year with Vivians and Saiz winning the fan vote.
