Who you got? Here are mine for this week…
Posted on: September 23,2013
After a perfect week the week before, my predictions fell off to 8-2 last week. That comes with this addendum, I picked several upsets including Duke over Pitt and Boise over Fresno State. Both Duke and Boise lost heartbreakers but did cover the spread.
On the season, I’ve picked 83.3 percent correctly or 35 out of 42.
This week’s slate is the most difficult yet. Here goes…
ALABAMA 27, OLE MISS 20 — Vegas has Alabama a 17-point pick over the Rebels at Tuscaloosa. It looks closer than that to me. Bama beat Ole Miss 33-14 last season in a game that was closer than the score. Ole Miss is much improved since then. Meanwhile, Bama is not nearly as dominant as last year’s national champions. Ole Miss could win this game, if Bama doesn’t play well, a fact that I’m sure Nick Saban will stress to his team all week long.
BOISE STATE 31, SOUTHERN MISS 10 — Wow! Southern Miss is a 27-point underdog to a Boise State team that has won 2 and lost 2. Here’s what we know about the Golden Eagles. They aren’t going to get any respect until they earn some.
LSU 27, GEORGIA 24 — Interestingly, Georgia is favored by three points at home, which normally means oddsmakers think the teams are even. I’m picking LSU because the Tigers usually have won these sorts of games in recent years and Georgia has not.
TEXAS A & M 34, ARKANSAS 17 — You may not like Johnny Manziel, but you must admit that the guy is a scoring machine, the most dynamic player in college football.
SOUTH CAROLINA 28, UCF 20 — South Carolina has had a week off and I guarantee you Spurrier hasn’t taken George O’Leary’s team lightly.
FLORIDA 27, KENTUCKY 14 — Not sold on Florida and its offensive issues by any means, but the Gators should win with relative ease at Kentucky.
GEORGIA TECH 26, VIRGINIA TECH 20 — Should be a fun game to watch Thursday night. Again, love to watch what Paul Johnson does with G-Tech’s triple option.
JACKSON STATE 24, SOUTHERN U 17 — JSU badly needs two straight victories in this up-and-down season. I think they’ll get it down in Baton Rouge.
OKLAHOMA 28, NOTRE DAME 24 — Notre Dame is overrated, which shouldn’t come as shocking news.
NEW ORLEANS 20, MIAMI 17 — This is the first of three straight games the undefeated Saints will play against teams that are currently undefeated. As long as Brees is healthy, I’ll not pick against them.
