You want winners; I've got you some (maybe)

Welcome to your weekly football forecast. We got the season off to an 8-2 start last weekend. But, boy, when I missed, I really missed. I had South Carolina over Texas A & M and Vanderbilt over Temple. Neither was close. Let’s try again…
Ole Miss 31, Vanderbilt 14: I am torn on this one. I saw Temple roll all over Vandy, but I’ve also seen how the Commodores, no matter the situation, always play Ole Miss really tough. In fact, Vandy has won three of the past four and five of the last seven meetings. But…Ole Miss is far better than Temple.
Mississippi State 48, UAB 10: Yes, I know, UAB plowed through Troy in its opener. But can this UAB team be that much better than the one outscored by USM 49-6 in the second half of last year’s season finale? I can’t see how.
Southern Miss 27, Alcorn 17: This is far from a gimme for USM. When you are 1-24 in your last 25 games, there are no gimmes. Jay Hopson, who used to coach at USM, is doing a fine job at Alcorn.
Jackson State 41, Virginia-Lynchburg 10 — Lynchburg, lopsided loser to Alcorn last week, is going to be really tired of Mississippi after this.
Alabama 44, Florida Atlantic 7: Saban could name the score, but he is not one to run it up. This is as close as he can keep this one.
Toledo 27, Missouri 25: This week’s upset special. A really good MAC team gets an mediocre SEC team at home for a change.
Kentucky 27, Ohio 17: This SEC-MAC match won’t be a walk-over either.
Florida 41, Eastern Michigan 10: Are the SEC and MAC merging?
South Carolina 31, East Carolina 20: The Gamecocks were embarrassed by A&M. Kevin Sumlin doesn’t coach ECU.
Auburn 59, San Jose State 14: Speed kills and Auburn has gobs of it.
Stanford 20, USC 17: Heckuva early season matchup. The smarter team wins.
New Orleans Saints 27, Atlanta Falcons 23: As usual, it will be decided late.
We’ve still got tickets remaining for the Jackie Sherrill Roast next Tuesday night. Find details here or call 601 982-8264 for more information.
