High school playing career
Clinton High 1951-55

• Scored more than 3,000 points in career
• Scored 1,050 points and 29 per game as a senior
• Member of state championship track team
• Member of district championship tennis team

Junior college playing career

• Won state championship in tennis, 1956
• Two-year letterman in basketball

Coaching career

• Career basketball coaching record 373-101.
• Coached seven state championship teams in three different sports.
• Helped create the high school all star girls basketball game in 1965.
• First woman to address the Mississippi Association of Coaches, 1965.
• Her Northwest Rankin tennis teams achieved a record of 325 victories and 26 defeats for an astounding winning percentage of nearly 93 percent.
• Coached three undefeated state championship track teams
• Named All-Star coach in three sports, tennis, basketball, softball.
• Inducted into Belhaven, Mississippi Association of Coaches and Hinds Community College Halls of Fame.

Did you know?

• Gwen White, a true pioneer in women’s sports, introduced AAU girls basketball and track and field to Mississippi, often using her own money.
• Among the many AAU basketball standouts she coached was two-time Olympic gold medalist, Ruthie Bolton, a fellow Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer.
