Carmody, who has a Masters Degree from Tulane, published numerous articles for national football publications including ”Defensive Football Strategies” and “Multiple Goal Line Defenses” in 2002.
As USM’s head coach, his team’s 17-7 win over Jackson State in 1987 marked the first football meeting ever between one of the state’s predominantly white Division 1-A teams and one of Mississippi’s predominantly black 1-AA teams. His USM squads were 11-4 against in-state rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
