While playing for Washington, Malone once hit a game-winning shot that is still widely regarded as one of the most improbable in NBA history. His team trailing the Detroit Pistons 102-101, Malone launched a shot over the back of the backboard while falling out of bounds as time expired to secure the one-point victory.
He finished his remarkable 13-year NBA career with 17,231 points, 2,154 assists and had shot an improbable 87 percent from the free throw line.
