Johnny Vaught’s longest unbeaten streak at Ole Miss was 23 games, beginning with a 58-0 massare of Chattanooga in 1959 and closing with a 47-0 humiliation of Vanderbilt in 1961. But the losses which bookend this streak have always haunted Rebel fans. The streak began after Ole Miss’s 7-3 loss to LSU on Halloween night, 1959, and continued until LSU beat the Rebels again, 10-7, in 1961. The streak’s only blemish was a 6-6 tie in 1960… with LSU. Coach Vaught’s career record against the Tigers was an impressive 15-7-3, including a 21-0 victory in the 1960 Sugar Bowl.
