- Played in the first Mississippi High School All-Star game in 1955
- In 1955, averaged 27 points per game and led team to State tournament appearance
- In 1954, averaged 21 points per game for team that won the State Championship and Grand Slam title

- Led the Golden Wave hoops team to record of 131-23 during his tenure plus two consecutive Big Eight, Class AA State Championships and Grand Slam Championships in 1965 & 1966
- Overall high school basketball coaching record was 187-31

- Served as assistant under head coach Joe Dan Gold

- Named SEC Coach of the Year by AP 1971

- Recruited and coached four NBA draft picks including first round draft choices Ricky Brown and Wiley Peck
