Four players from Coach Covington’s 1970 SWAC championship team were drafted by the NBA. Brothers Eugene (1975) and Purvis Short (1978) were both first round draft choices. Covington, an honors graduate from Jackson State with a Masters from the University of Kentucky, stressed education to his players: 67% of them received their undergraduate degrees.
