Mississippi State (1982-1985)

  • Set Mississippi State and SEC career record for home runs (67), RBIs (239) and total bases (530).
  • First triple-crown winner in SEC history with a .415 average, 29 HR and 94 RBIs (1984).
  • SEC All-Tournament team (1983).
  • NCAA Regional All-Tournament team (1984, 1985).
  • Led MSU to its highest end-of-the-season ranking in school history (No. 3 in 1985).
  • First round draft pick (22nd overall) of the Chicago Cubs (1985).
  • Inducted into College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009 along with his MSU and Mississippi Sports of Hall of Fame coach, Ron Polk.

Professional Career (1986-2005)

  • Four-time All-Star selection (1988, 1991, 1998, 1999).
  • Three-time Gold Gove Award winner (1997, 1998, 1999).
  • Two-time Silver Slugger Award winner (1998, 1999).
  • Texas Rangers MVP (1990, 1999, 2000).
  • Is one of 25 players in the 500-home run club.
  • Is one of 28 players in the 3,000-hit club.
  • Is one of only four players with more than 500 home runs and 3,000 hits in baseball history.

Did You Know?

Palmeiro finished his career with more home runs than Reggie Jackson, more total bases than Frank Robinson, more extra base hits than Lou Gehrig and batted in more runs than Honus Wagner. During his professional career, he stayed involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He has provided substantial financial assistance to enhance athletics facilities in the Dallas area and provided much of the funding of the indoor athletics practice facility at Mississippi State, a structure that bears his name.
