- Named to All-State track team by Clarion Ledger
- Won Class 5A high jump as senior
- Recorded a state-best high jump of 6 feet 11 inches, 1998
- Matched a school record set by Lee Smith in high jump with 6 feet, 10 inches—the JPS record
- Led Provine to win in JPS City Track & Field meet, 1997; won high jump, long jump, & 300 meter intermediate hurdles
- Forgot his spikes for one meet but still managed to jump 6 feet, 10 inches in tennis shoes
- In one meet, he decided on the spot to try hurdles and won the first race he ever ran in that event
