• Became an outstanding pitcher for Hall of Famer Pete Taylor at USM for four seasons
• Once threw a no-hitter with fellow Hall of Famer Corky Palmer behind the plate
• Played basketball three seasons for Hall of Famer M.K. Turk
Professional baseball
• Spent two seasons in the Seattle Mariners organization with a 3.23 earned run average and 18 saves
• Retired from baseball to begin coaching career
William Carey University
• Became the all-time winningest basketball coach in Mississippi history on Nov. 20, 2010, when he surpassed Hall of Famer Davey Whitney with his 506th victory
• Became first Mississippi coach to win 700 college basketball games
• His teams have won 20 games or more in 21 seasons
• Successful athletic director for 30 years, who increased William Carey from five sports teams to 17
• His 32nd William Carey basketball team (2013-14) won 28 games, lost 3, went 18-0 in conference play and Knight earned national NAIA Coach of the Year honors
